The Listen item Aug. 2 about Santa Monica resident Lisa Frank--who phoned staff writer Bettijane Levine to say landlords wouldn't rent her space for a socks shop--elicited a lot of response. : Here are some of the letters:

August 09, 1985

Tell Lisa Frank to keep her socks on . . . till I come back from researching socks shops on the East Coast. I think it's a great idea, and I'd love to be her partner and her venture capitalist. I have the money and the MBA to back me up. Please give her my address and phone number. I'm a socks freak too, and I think a socks shop is a fantastic idea.
