The City Council gave final approval to an ordinance to rezone six lots north of Wilshire Boulevard for residential use.
The lots, along Franklin Street and Centinela Avenue just north of the Wilshire Boulevard commercial district, were previously zoned R-1A, which allows surface parking lots or residential use. The new R-1 zoning will restrict the lots to single-family residential use.
The change affects Jean Hunnicutt Unke, who owns one of the lots and applied last year to demolish a duplex and build a parking lot on the parcel. She will be allowed to proceed if she acts before the ordinance takes effect in September.
