A Los Angeles-based construction firm has been selected to build buffer walls along the 605 Freeway between Del Amo Boulevard and South Street. Kiewit Pacific Inc. will erect the 13-foot-high walls at a cost of $2.8 million.
City officials expect the six-month project to begin in early September. The reinforced concrete block walls are designed to reduce the noise and dust generated by the more than 170,000 vehicles that use the freeway daily. The walls will sit on top of a six-foot-high landscaped berm that state Department of Transportation workers will install before construction of the block walls begins.
Plans call for buffer walls to be constructed along the east side of the freeway between Del Amo and South. The walls will be built on the west side of the freeway between South and 195th Street.
