The first Los Angeles International Animation Celebration, featuring several American premieres of international animation productions, will be held Sept. 25-29 at the Wadsworth Theatre in West Los Angeles.
The festival, presented by the Hollywood chapter of L'Association Internationale du Film d'Animation and the Children's Film and Television Center of America, will present "Starchaser: The Legend of Orin," the first full-length 3-D animated feature. Also on the bill are the American premieres of Japan's "Warriors of the Wind," France's "Gwen," Australia's "Epic" and Hungary's "The White Mare."
Tributes and retrospectives are also on the schedule. Japanese director Osamu Tezuka, Disney animator/director Wolfgang Reithermann and American animator Chuck Jones will be the subject of salutes from the festival, while retrospectives of British and Dutch animation will be offered.
The festival is also an international competition, with cash prizes and awards going to winners in such categories as shorts and music videos, public service announcements, commercials, computer animation and children's animation.
