Afoot in Paris

August 25, 1985

Hannah Sampson's article on Paris Aug. 11 could have been written by me, as her experience so closely paralleled mine, except that I was a lone traveler. I flew to Paris one weekend last October from London. I spent two days walking from one end (Place des Vosges) to the other (Bois de Boulogne) and back. It rained; I loved it. I didn't speak French. No problem; I smiled a lot. I saw everything I had missed on a previous trip in 1980, this time going to the top of the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe for the spectacular views. Enjoyed just looking at the Louvre and not going in. Stopped to eat wherever I was, and had good food. Paris is such a joy to be in, it doesn't matter if you are alone or don't speak the language, just go. London, of course, is another wonderful city and story.
