About 80 acres of rolling hills were blackened Saturday afternoon by a brush fire that took six engine companies to bring under control, a state Department of Forestry spokeswoman said.

At least five firefighters sustained minor to moderate injuries when an air tanker dropping fire retardant caused debris to fly and hit the men, the spokeswomen said.

Homes on Meadowlark Ranch Road were threatened but the blaze was brought under control about 5 p.m.
