Balding Dutch veteran Joop Zoetemelk won the men's professional road cycling title at the 1985 World Championships in a big upset at Giavera del Montello, Italy.

Zoetemelk, 38, had never before won a major road race.

Greg LeMond of the United States, the 1983 World Champion, was second and Moreno Argentina of Italy third, just three seconds behind the winner.
