Canada advanced to within one victory of qualifying for next year's World Cup soccer tournament in Mexico when it held Costa Rica to a scoreless tie in San Jose, Costa Rica.

The Canadians lead the qualifying group with four points. Costa Rica, which plays its final game against Honduras next Sunday, is second with three. Honduras, which has one point, meets Canada in the group's final game on Sept. 14.
