Running back Lynn Cain has signed a 1985 contract with the Rams, the team announced Thursday. Cain, 29, had played the last six seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, who released him last week.
To make room on the roster for Cain, the Rams placed defensive back David Croudip on waivers.
Cain played under Ram Coach John Robinson at USC, where he gained 870 yards as a fullback in his senior year.
At Atlanta, Cain, 6-1 and 205 pounds, rushed for 2,313 yards, caught 122 passes and scored 25 touchdowns. His best season was 1980, when he gained 915 yards on 235 carries.
Cain will be in uniform Sunday, when the Rams open the 1985 season against the Denver Broncos at Anaheim Stadium.
