The Nation

September 15, 1985

The latest Gallup Poll found that 81% of the public expect the economic recovery to last until the end of this year, with 54% predicting that economic good times will prevail into 1987 or beyond. The public is now more optimistic about the economy than it was in surveys conducted in 1983 and 1984. Republicans are only slightly more bullish than Democrats about the duration of the recovery: 58% of the Republicans and 50% of the Democrats believe that economic good times will last at least into 1987.
