September 15, 1985

The House ethics committee was asked to determine if House rules were violated by the financial dealings of Rep. Fernand J. St Germain (D-R. I.) or by Virginia Democratic Rep. Dan Daniel's accepting free travel on a defense contractor's airplane. The request by Common Cause, the citizens lobby, followed a Wall Street Journal report that St Germain had "received lots of investment help from people and institutions that have benefited from his official actions." News Leader that Daniel "occasionally flies between his district and Washington on aircraft of a defense contractor (Beech Aircraft Corp.)."
