STANFORD — Fullback Brad Muster had more than 200 yards in total offense and scored four touchdowns Saturday to lead Stanford to a 41-7 rout of San Jose State.

Stanford quarterback John Paye, who missed much of last season with a broken hand, completed 25 of 35 attempts for 283 yards and a touchdown. Muster had 95 yards rushing and 107 yards receiving on 11 receptions.

Muster scored on runs of 7, 6 and 2 yards as Stanford built a 21-0 lead in the second quarter.

Paye teammed with tight end Greg Baty for a 29-yard score and a 28-0 lead. Dave Sweeney capped the first half scoring with no time left when he kicked a 39-yard field goal to make it 31-0.

The Spartans managed 20 total yards in the first half and were held to minus 24 yards rushing.

San Jose State opened the second half with a 76-yard, six-play drive for its only touchdown. The drive was capped by a 30-yard scoring pass from Doug Allen to Lafo Malauulu.

Sweeney came back with a 50-yard field goal on the Cardinal's next possession to make it 34-7.

Muster rounded out the scoring by running for a four-yard touchdown to cap a 43-yard, eight-play drive.
