Striking Continental pilots may bid for jobs.

September 17, 1985

In a maneuver to protect an estimated 450 new jobs expected to open at Continental Airlines next year, leaders of the striking Continental pilots union authorized their members to submit bids for those jobs while the strike against the bankrupt airline continues. "Let me emphasize that this is not an end to the pilot strike at Continental," said Henry Duffy, president of the Air Line Pilots Assn. The strike was originally called on Oct. 1, 1983.
