Plans for a controversial apartment complex were rejected by the City Council this week after several nearby residents complained about the traffic congestion and loss of privacy they believed the project would cause.

The proposed luxury apartments were to have been located on a parcel of land near White and Berkeley avenues, but council members questioned plans for driveway access, which would have been restricted to an alley.

The developer, Stephen Sanders, asked the council Monday to send the proposal back to the Planning Commission for further review, but after listening to statements from several area homeowners, the council voted to uphold the Planning Commission's recommendation and deny Sanders permission to build the five-unit complex.
