Gardena

September 26, 1985

A Gardena man who jumped on the back of a moving truck near Western Avenue and 150th Street early Sunday died of head injuries after he fell from the vehicle, police said. The victim was identified as Kevin Mosby, 25.

Gardena Police Det. Jerry Hudgeons said the death occurred shortly before 6 a.m. when an unidentified driver stopped to talk to two of Mosby's acquaintances. Mosby had a short conversation with the driver, who then drove away as Mosby jumped onto the truck. Mosby fell off when the driver turned right onto 150th Street.

"No one really knew why he did what he did," Hudgeons said, adding that police also do not know whether the driver, who did not stop, intentionally threw Mosby from the truck. The death is being handled as a homicide, Hudgeons said.
