Los Alamitos Routs Costa Mesa, 34-13

It was apparent that Costa Mesa High School's defensive secondary read the scouting report on Los Alamitos wide receiver Rob Katzaroff before Friday night's game against the Griffins.

Unfortunately for the Mustangs, the preparation didn't pay off, as Katzaroff, a 5-foot 9-inch senior, had 11 receptions for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns in Los Alamitos' 34-13 win at Davidson Field.

Last week, Katzaroff had a dozen receptions, and according to Griffin Coach John Barnes, 10 of the 12 times the first potential tackler was unable to stop him.

"He's so quick," Barnes said. "It's tough to get a hand on him one-on-one."

Griffin quarterback J.T. Snow completed 12 of 22 attempts for 259 yards and 3 touchdowns. The game's first touchdown was indicative of how well Snow read defenses. From the Mustang 15, Snow called an audible and had Katzaroff run a quick rout against the deep-defending secondary.

After catching the pass well in front of the defender, Katzaroff used his speed to evade two tacklers and went in for the touchdown.

The Griffins (3-0) exploded for 21 points in the second quarter to take command. Katzaroff scored on a similar down-and-out play from 29 yards, whereas Wim Libby got the first of two rushing touchdowns later in the quarter to make it 21-7. The third score of the period came with 1:20 left when Snow hit tight end Don Dubry with a nine-yard scoring pass.
