A two-point conversion pass from quarterback John Yurkovich to Dave Townsend with 2:05 remaining lifted Woodbridge High School to an 8-7 nonleague victory over San Marcos Friday night in front of 1,600 in Irvine Stadium.
Yurkovich's 9-yard touchdown pass to Bill York made the score, 7-6. On the conversion, Yurkovich, who completed 7 of 11 passes for 77 yards, rolled right before throwing to Townsend, who made a diving catch under pressure.
San Marcos (0-3) had controlled the game up until the final minutes after a 10-yard run by Jim Terral with 2:22 left in the second quarter put them ahead.
Woodbridge (2-1), which had problems moving the ball in the first half, finally got going in the fourth quarter behind the passing of Yurkovich, who was replaced briefly in the third quarter by junior Mike Juarez.
