The city currently requires one parking space for four seats or for each 100 square feet of dining area, whichever is greater. The planning staff has recommended an increase to one parking space for three seats or each 100 square feet of total restaurant space, whichever is greater.
The planning staff said it surveyed other cities and found Monterey Park's parking standards to be lower than most. The city began re-evaluating its standards because of complaints about traffic congestion.
