House OKs Textile Import Cuts

October 10, 1985|Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Unfazed by a threat of a presidential veto, the House voted today to sharply cut textile and apparel imports that supporters argue "have stolen our jobs."

"This is the last gasp of this industry--don't say you weren't told," declared Rep. Ed Jenkins (D-Ga.) in an emotional appeal to the House before it approved the measure 262-159 and sent it to the Senate.
