Longshot Nassipour, well behind the leaders for much of the race, rallied in the stretch to win the $600,000 Rothmans International at Toronto.

Ridden by Jean-Luc Samyn, the 5-year-old chestnut horse moved between the leaders with a few yards remaining in the 1 5/8-mile race on the Marshall turf course.

Nassipour, bred in Kentucky, won by a neck over favored Sumayr, a French invader, in 2:48 1/5. Triptych, the only filly in the 11-horse field, finished third.

Nassipour, sent off at odds of 25-1, paid $57.20 to win.
