Local News in Brief : Gun-Toting Teen-Agers Bind, Rob Woman, 55

October 22, 1985

Six teen-agers carrying guns and a machete broke into a Canoga Park house Monday, bound and gagged a 55-year-old woman who lived there, and stole jewelry and about $1,200 in cash before fleeing, Los Angeles police said.

The youths, described as Asian, neatly dressed and sporting new-wave hair styles, apparently surprised the woman at about 11:30 a.m. in her home in the 7300 block of Kelvin Avenue, Detective Ed Pikor said.

The robbers tied up the woman and put masking tape over her mouth, ransacked the home, then fled in a car, Pikor said. The woman was not injured.

Details on the robbery were sketchy because the woman, a Vietnamese immigrant, could not speak English. The case will probably be referred to the Police Department's Asian Task Force, Pikor said.
