China has successfully tested a cruise missile within the last month, East European diplomats said in Peking. It was believed to be China's first test of a cruise missile. The diplomats said they understood that the missile, fired from a land base into the East China Sea 190 miles southeast of Shanghai, was designed for use by submarines. They said that most of the test flight took place over land areas to facilitate electronic tracking.
