Hawaiian Gardens Wins Safety Award

Hawaiian Gardens — The city has received a Pedestrian Safety Citation from the Automobile Club of Southern Califronia for its 1984 pedestrian safety record. The award was earned in the American Automobile Assn.'s Pedestrian protection program in competition with 1,006 cities with populations of 10,000 to 25,000.

For the third consecutive year therre were no pedestrian fatalities in Hawaiian Gardens; communities of similar size averaged 1.9 fatalities per 100,000 population. The city previously won citations in 1977 and 1982.
