GRAPEVINE, Tex. — An explosive device blew up inside a baggage compartment of a jet during a stopover Wednesday, destroying the bag it was in but causing no damage to the plane and no injuries, officials said.

The 147 passengers and seven crew members on American Airlines Flight 203, en route from Austin to San Francisco, were removed from the Boeing 727 about 8 a.m., American spokesman John Raymond said.
