Orange County Projects Honored

November 17, 1985

Twelve awards for meritorious achievement have been presented by the Orange County chapter, National Assn. of Industrial and Office Parks, in the organization's first design and development competition.

Winners were announced from more than 80 entries at a dinner at the Irvine Marriott Hotel. Office and industrial projects in Orange County completed from 1980 through 1985 were eligible.

The awardees are:

--Building One, Koll Center Irvine, Irvine; The Koll Co., owner/developer; Gensler & Associates/Architects; category, low-rise office/professional.

--Columbia Savings & Loan Assn. building, Newport Beach; Columbia Savings & Loan Assn., owner; Dworsky Associates, architects; category, low-rise/professional.

--Center Tower, Costa Mesa; Center Tower Associates, developer; CRS Sirrine Inc., architect; category, high-rise office/professional.

--Civic Plaza, Newport Beach; the Irvine Co., owner/developer; Architects Pacifica Ltd., architects; category, business park.

--Steam Division Maintenance Headquarters, Westminster; Southern California Edison Co., owner; Grillias.PIRC.Rosier.Alves, architects; category, manufacturing.

--The Raymond Cos. Corporate Headquarters, Orange; the Raymond Cos., owner; Pulaski & Arita, Architects; category, industrial/remodel.

--Kierulff Electronics Building, Cypress; Warland Investments Ltd., owner/developer; Howard F. Thompson & Associates Inc., architects; category, research and development/single building.

--Amberdon Plaza, Irvine; Equidon Investment Builders, developer; George W. Seitz, AIA, architect; category, research and development/remodel.

--Canyon Corporate Center, Anaheim; the Macklin Cos., owner/developer; Corbin/Yamafuji & Partners Inc., architect; category, research and development/remodel.

--Koll Center Irvine North, Irvine (planning award); the Koll Co., owner/developer; Langdon Wilson Mumper Architects; category, planning.

--El Camino Bank, Anaheim (interior design award); IPS Cos., owner; DeRevere Partnership, designers; category, interior design.

--Koll Center Irvine, Irvine (award for plaza and park spaces design); the Koll Co., developer; Albert C. Martin & Associates, designers; category, plaza and park spaces design.

Co-chairman of the event, which will be a continuing program of the Orange County chapter in future years, were W. Blair Armstrong, managing partner, O'Donnell, Brigham & Partners/Southern, and Dell DeRevere of De Revere Partnership. Chapter President Richard M. Ortwein, division president of the Koll Co., provided direction in organizing and structuring the competition.

Among the judges were Robert S. Harris, dean of the School of Architecture at USC; William S. Lewis Jr., senior vice president, Deems/Lewis & Partners, San Diego; Sharon Lee Polledri, development manager, Olympia & York California Equities Corp., and Robert Tyler, senior vice president and corporate director of design, Welton Becket Associates.

Sponsors of the program were Security Pacific Mortgage & Real Estate Services Inc., Newport Beach; Wells Fargo Bank, Beverly Hills, and Crocker Bank, Real Estate Industries Division, San Francisco.

Anthony Moiso, president and chief executive officer of Santa Margarita Co., was master of ceremonies and speaker at the awards dinner, attended by more than 600 people.
