Cerritos

November 21, 1985

Plans are under way to build the city's 25th park on five acres of surplus land owned by the Artesia Cemetery District south of Artesia Boulevard between Studebaker and Gridley roads. The city will lease the vacant land and begin work on the facility next spring, Cerritos spokesman Michele Ogle said.

Although specific plans for the park have not been completed, Ogle said it will include a multipurpose field for soccer, football and softball. Selection of a landscape architect is expected by the end of the year, with installation of an irrigation system and plantings completed by summer, 1986. The new park has not been named. In the past, city officials have allowed residents living near proposed parks to hold contests to select names.

It will be the 25th park or recreation area in the city, including Iron Wood Nine golf course and the Olympic Swim Center.
