The Duarte Unified School District board and the City Council will hold a joint meeting on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall to study the possibility of building a new Northview Middle School next to Duarte High School at 1565 E. Central Ave. The district has been studying how to use the six acres of surplus land east of the high school, said Supt. Robert Packer.
The current Northview site at 1137 E. Central Ave. is near a new shopping center that was built with redevelopment funds and the area is likely to include further commercial development, Packer said. If the city bought that site from the school district, the proceeds would be used to build a new school. The city has also expressed interest in leasing the surplus six acres. No action will be taken at the Tuesday study session, Packer said.
