Monterey Park : Council OKs Remodeling

November 28, 1985

The City Council voted 4 to 1 to approve a conditional-use permit to allow a developer to remodel the closed Safeway store at Atlantic Boulevard and Garvey Avenue into a bank, five offices, a restaurant and seven stores. Councilman Cam Briglio voted against the permit, arguing that the plan called for too many little stores. But other council members approved the permit after the developer, Eddie Hsu of the Garvey-Atlantic Group, agreed to combine two small restaurants into a larger one and to reduce the number of retail shops from eight to seven.
