Santa Monica College landed four players on the 1985 All-Western State Conference football team: freshman defensive lineman David Ryan and sophomore linebacker Ron Banks and two other sophomores, offensive lineman Richard Mace and wide receiver Eddie Fletcher.
Three SMC freshmen were second-team selections: running back Ken Williams, linebacker Todd Deeds and defensive back Randy Johnson. Corsairs who received honorable mention were sophomore offensive linemen Fabian Diaz and George Mihalopoulos, freshman wide receiver Randy Peterson, sophomore defensive linemen Odean Johnson and Mark Moore and freshman defensive back Ken Quash.
Santa Monica finished in a tie for third place with Ventura and Compton, each 4-3 in league play, and the Corsairs were 4-5 overall.
SMC freshman quarterback Kevin Bray was fifth in the conference in passing, completing 91 of 200 passes for 1,399 yards and eight touchdowns in eight games. Eddie Fletcher, Bray's favorite target, was in sixth place with 35 receptions for 436 yards and three touchdowns in nine games.
