Man Held in Wife's Death in Fire

December 09, 1985

A man who appeared to have tried to help save his wife from their burning Pasadena motel room Sunday night was arrested today on suspicion of murder.

Richard A. Johnson, 39, who suffered only minor burns and was seen trying to help firefighters put out the blaze at the Capri Motel on Lincoln Avenue, was taken into custody after interrogation, police said. The body of Mildred Johnson, 31, was found in the fire-gutted motel room that the couple had shared for the last month. There were no other injuries, police said.
