"Dynasty II: The Colbys" is just what we needed. Here is overkill of spoiled, opulent brats centered on one more monarchistic oil tycoon. What a social statement where his wife is stroking and drooling over a large glinting assortment of jewelry. If a soap opera is to be fantasy, what about the dreams and aspirations of the less privileged? What about a less than ravishing lady of an East Los Angeles barrio or Mississippi shack casting a longing look at her collection of dime-store glass jewelry? But that would defeat the raison d'etre of soaps--ad bucks.
