U.N. Condemns Kidnapings

December 18, 1985|Associated Press

UNITED NATIONS — The Security Council today unanimously adopted an unprecedented resolution that "unequivocally" condemns terrorist kidnapings and calls for the release of all hostages.

To preserve the appearance of Security Council solidarity, there was no public debate on the resolution, which stemmed from a U.S. initiative prompted by the hijacking of the Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro in October.
