MONTREAL — Total traffic on the world's airlines in 1985 was 6% higher than in 1984, preliminary figures released by the International Civil Aviation Organization indicate.

The increase is lower than last year's 8% rise because freight traffic edged up only 1% this year, the organization said in a statement.

The figures reveal that airlines of the organization's 156 member states flew 892 million passengers in 1985, compared to 841 million flown a year earlier.
