A Mexican consular employee has been charged with swinging a metal post and chain at a man who was distributing leaflets critical of the Mexican government in front of the consulate in Los Angeles. Salvador Ricardo Uribe, 26, will be arraigned on misdemeanor charges of assault with a deadly weapon and battery against Jack Gerritson, 49, said Deputy City Atty. Elizabeth Gertz. Consular officials say Gerritson has been distributing leaflets outside the consulate for more than two years, and they have tried unsuccessfully to have his activities limited through diplomatic channels.
