The Malibu Beach Esplanade, a proposed walkway and viewing deck linking the Malibu Pier to the Adamson House Museum and Surfrider Beach, may be under construction by the summer, according to Ann Ryan, president of the private, nonprofit corporation that was formed to build it.
Ryan said the corporation has enough money to build the walkway, after receiving a $407,000 grant from the state Coastal Conservancy. Los Angeles County also has authorized $440,000 for placing utilities underground in the walkway area. And the state Department and Parks has contributed $80,000 for stairs to the sand at Malibu Pier.
But another $150,000 is needed for amenities such as benches, lamp posts and landscaping, Ryan said. She plans to hold a fund-raiser in 1986 and is soliciting private donations.
A plaque on the planned viewing deck overlooking Surfrider Beach will list the names of those who give more than $100. Ryan said donations may be sent to Malibu Beach Esplanade, P.O. Box 84, Malibu 90265.
