NEW ORLEANS — Former Democratic Rep. Richard A. Tonry was accused in a federal indictment Friday of racketeering and bribery in a scheme to win a bingo contract on the Chitimacha Indian Reservation.

U.S. Atty. John Volz said a three-count federal grand jury indictment accuses Tonry, a Chalmette, La., lawyer, of conspiring and engaging in interstate travel in aid of racketeering.

Tonry resigned from office in 1977.
