Point Loma Defeats Chapman, Despite 20 Points by Huston

Point Loma College, behind Deon Richard's 26 points and Mitch McMullen's 24 points, defeated Chapman, 81-72, Saturday night in a nonconference game played at the Crusaders' gym in San Diego.

The Panthers trailed, 37-31, at halftime and were able to trim the deficit to 65-63 with 3:45 remaining, but they were unable to tie it. Chapman (4-8) was led by forward Kelly Huston, who made 10 of 12 shots from the field and scored 20 points.

Paul Rollins added 13 points for the Panthers, who open California Collegiate Athletic Assn. play against Cal State Dominguez Hills Thursday night in the Hutton Sports Center.

Kevin Kennedy added 12 points for Point Loma, which improved to 8-3.

In other area college basketball action:

Southern California College 95, Lubbock Christian 79--Rob Lucas scored 26 points and Ken Bardsley added 24 points and 10 rebounds to help the Vanguards defeat the Chaparrals in a nonconference game played in Southern California College's gym at Costa Mesa.

John Haar (12 points) and Randy McAllister (10) also scored in double figures for SCC, which has won seven straight games and improves its record to 10-4. Tony Chennault led Lubbock Christian with 23 points.
