Thought Richard Pietschmann, "Making Converts to the New Skiing Rental Game" (Nov. 10), would like to hear from a Pro-Select non-convert. My experience with the Vail licensee, Gorsuch Ltd., last season was abominable. The "sophisticated computerized reservations" and "folders with names behind the counter" became a scrap of paper with my name scribbled and misspelled, located after a half-hearted 45-minute search by a rude attendant.
Overused, non-tuned skis, undeodorized boots (the type reserved three weeks earlier were nowhere to be found) and a haphazard binding adjustment all resulted in a ruined day of skiing.
The following day I found new, tuned equipment and friendly service from an independent shop, all with no advance notice, at reasonable rates.
