Television station KCBS Channel 2 and its sister radio station, KNX (1070), earned top honors at the 36th annual Golden Mike awards for outstanding news broadcasting in Southern California.
KNBC Channel 4 captured the honors for best 30- and 60-minute newscasts by a major TV station, but KCBS collected a total of seven awards, including best documentary ("Vietnam 10 Years After"), best interview program ("Newsmakers") and best news special ("Mexico City: A Lesson for L.A.").
KNX, meanwhile, got the Golden Mike for best newscast over 15 minutes in length and four other awards, for spot news, documentary, editorial and sound.
The awards were announced Friday night by the Radio and Television News Assn. of Southern California.
Besides its award for best newscasts, KNBC also picked up a Golden Mike for best live coverage of a breaking news story. KABC-TV Channel 7 received just one award, for best sports segment.
