January 15, 1986|CLARKE TAYLOR

NEW YORK — In an unusual method of film distribution, a series of five films by first-time film makers will be premiered here weekly, starting today, and then will be released in various cities around the country.

The low-budget films, all dealing with the theme of love and all having been released theatrically or aired on television in Britain, were produced by British producer David Puttnam "to give new writers and directors in Britain a chance."

After the series of weekly New York premieres, the films are scheduled to be released in the same manner in mid-February in Los Angeles, at the Beverly Center Cineplex. The series then is scheduled to be released in one U.S. city after another by the distributor, Cinecom International.

The films in the coming series, in order of their premieres, are: "Sharma and Beyond," written and directed by Brian Gilbert; "Those Glory, Glory Days," written by Julie Welch and directed by Philip Saville; "Forever Young," written by Ray Connolly and directed by David Drury; "Arthur's Hallowed Ground," written by Peter Gibbs and directed by Freddie Young, and "Winter Flight," written by Alan Janes and directed by Roy Battersby.
