January 16, 1986|Amalia Duarte

The City Council this week named a Monterey County city manager, James Buell, as its city manager, filling a post left vacant since October by the resignation of Kevin O'Rourke.

Buell, 45, who will make $53,000 a year, will begin work in February. O'Rourke left Stanton Oct. 31 to become Buena Park city manager.

Buell has been city manager for Greenfield, population 4,700, for the past 15 months. Before that, he was city manager in Watsonville in Santa Cruz County and assistant city manager in Bakersfield in Kern County. He held various positions during a six-year stint in Burbank.

Buell also ran his own consulting firm for four years, first in San Jose and then from his home in Salinas in Monterey County. The company, Buell and Associates, was primarily involved with development and redevelopment projects.
