January 22, 1986|Associated Press

NEW YORK — The dollar rose slightly in late U.S. trading Tuesday after dipping in Europe and the British pound and gold prices declined in response to the slumping oil market.

Traders said the dollar fluctuated within a normal range and they did not link its behavior to any particular economic news.

"The big action today was in the pound," said David Arbesman, first vice president of Prudential Bache Securities Inc., a New York investment firm.
