Harold Martinez, founder and president of Able Industrial Products in South El Monte, has been named a delegate to the National White House Conference on Small Business by Rep. Esteban Torres (D-Pico Rivera). The conference in August will include discussions on the future of small business. Martinez, of Hacienda Heights, is a former president of the Latin Business Assn. Torres is a member of the House Small Business and Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs committees.
Peter B. Dervan, a chemistry professor at Caltech in Pasadena, has received the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award for developing techniques to analyze how antitumor, antiviral and antibiotic drugs bind to DNA. The award includes a $15,000 grant which Dervan, of Pasadena, will use to further his research. Dervan received his doctorate from Yale University and conducted postdoctorate research at Stanford University.
Peter J. S. Friedman has been named associate executive director of Terrace Plaza Medical Center in Baldwin Park. Friedman previously served as associate director at Coast Plaza Medical Center in Norwalk. He received his undergraduate degree from California State University, Los Angeles, and his graduate degree from California State University, Northridge.
John E. Fisher has been reelected president of the Walnut Valley Water District Board of Directors. Fisher has been a board member for 12 years. J. P. Bourdet, a board member since 1957, was reelected first vice president and Richard C. Engdahl was named second vice president.
