A 21-year-old Orange County man was shot and wounded early Sunday as he was riding in a friend's camper along a freeway in West Los Angeles, police said.

Mark Loonan, who told police he lives in Orange and attends Chapman College, was struck in the side by one of three or four bullets that were fired into the camper as his friend drove south on the San Diego Freeway near the Mulholland Drive bridge, according to investigators.

Loonan was taken to UCLA Medical Center, where he was reported in stable condition.
