February 12, 1986|United Press International

PORTLAND, Ore. — Rep. James Weaver (D-Ore.) announced Tuesday that he will seek the Democratic nomination for the Senate, calling Sen. Bob Packwood, the Republican incumbent, an "appeaser" who has done little for his home state.

Weaver is the third Democrat to announce for the Democratic nomination, following state Sen. Rod Monroe and state Rep. Rick Bauman, both from Portland.
