'Superfan' Returning to L.A. Airwaves

February 12, 1986|LARRY STEWART

Ed (Superfan) Bieler, the controversial host of KABC's "Sportstalk" radio show the mid '70s, is returning to the Los Angeles airwaves. Beginning Monday, Bieler will do daily sports news and commentary on KGIL (1260) at 7:15 a.m. and 8:15 a.m.

In 1974, Bieler was sentenced to a year in prison for defrauding the federal government in 1969, when he was in the trucking business. He served 4 1/2 months, then returned to his old job at KABC, where he was fired in 1976. After a brief stint at KIEV, he went to work for a Dallas station. Most recently, Bieler was the host of a general talk show on San Diego station KSDO, where he resigned in December.

Bieler will replace Rick Talley at KGIL. Talley, also a columnist for the Daily News, quit the station to devote more time to a book he is writing on Terry Forster.
