Manhattan Beach : Money for Pier Restoration

South Bay Digest

February 13, 1986

The City Council has applied for $4 million in state funds to finance restoration or replacement of the Manhattan Beach pier. Los Angeles County, which maintains the weather-ravaged landmark, has estimated that it will cost $1.8 million for structural restoration of the 72-year-old pier and that total replacement will cost about $4 million.

The city, pushing for a pier project to enhance the appearance of its waterfront and end liability problems, has hired a consultant to evaluate the options for repairing or replacing the pier.
