Empire League : Katella Rolls to Victory, Clinches Title

February 13, 1986

Katella High School's Bob Erbst scored 22 points and pulled down 9 rebounds Wednesday night as the Knights rolled past Esperanza, 76-48, to clinch the Empire League championship. Katella is 12-1 in league and 20-3 overall.

Erbst got help from Richard Lucas, who had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Kirk Stierstorfer also had 10 points for Katella. Mike Vincent was Esperanza's leading scorer with 14 points. The Aztecs fell to 3-10 and 7-14.

ESPERANZA (48)-- Burks 2, Gammalo 2, M.Vincent 14, Harvey 11, Branstetter 12, Driver 4, M.Vincent 3.

KATELLA (76)-- Sunu 4, Anderson 2, Lucas 14, Erbst 22, Baldwin 7, Petrakis 7, Stierstorfer 10, Harker 1, Boberg 8, Dratcher 1.

Los Alamitos 73, Pacifica 71--The Griffins were leading by 12 points with 1:50 left but had to hold off a Mariner rally. Los Alamitos (10-3, 16-6) gained a playoff berth with the victory.

J.T. Snow led the Griffins with 23 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Ryan Blossey added 16 points and 8 rebounds and Matt Treece chipped in 11 assists for Los Alamitos. Chris Brodowski of Pacifica tied Snow for game-high scoring honors with 23 points.

LOS ALAMITOS (73)--Snow 23, Loe 13, Blossey 16, Warner 6, Anderson 5, Bowen 4, Treece 4, Schmitz 2.

PACIFICA (71)--Bonhan 13, Shelton 6, Brodwiski 23, Chapman 14, Honda 7, McDowell 8.

El Dorado 95, Cypress 84--Senior forward Jim Sammon, the county's third-leading scorer, paced the Golden Hawks with 32 points. Three others scored in double figures for El Dorado (11-2, 19-4), led by Dan Bailey with 21. Frantz Reyes had 21 points for Cypress (8-5, 13-11).

CYPRESS (84)--Civitelli 6, Cote 4, Kawamura 2, Reyes 21, Aguire 4, Weaver 9, Reese 16, Evans 18, Bumgarner 4.

Kennedy 66, Loara 44--Darrin Queen led the Fighting Irish with 18 points, 8 rebounds, 7 steals and 6 assists. Glenn Mares added 13 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for Kennedy (6-7, 10-12). Loara remained winless at 0-13 in league play and 0-20 overall.
