Thank you for the editorial (Feb. 20) concerning the findings of Worldwatch Institute.
It seems obvious to me that the State of the Planet is the most crucial issue of our times. Alas, our politicians do not seem to think so. As it happens, besides China, only the Greens in West Germany have adopted a political platform that reflects this concern. How can that be?
A healthy, intelligent, and statesmanlike approach would be commensurate with the future of the Earth and all its inhabitants. Instead, we have an arms race (which will be ironically obsolete if the Earth becomes uninhabitable before we have a chance to blow ourselves up), and we have secretary of the Department of the Interior Donald P. Hodel's article on the facing page, defending the destruction of the West Coast!
These are amazing times. Amazing because so many people are conscious and aware of what is really happening, and so many others (in high places) are blind, deaf, and terminally greedy.
Goddess help us all!
