NEW YORK — The 30-year-old son of actress Cloris Leachman and producer George Englund has been found dead in a Manhattan YMCA room, police said today.

Police said Bryan Englund died Tuesday. Nearby, officers found two bottles of medication for ulcers, according to police Sgt. Diane Kuebler. She said an overdose may have been the cause of death, but the medical examiner had not yet ruled in the case.

Kuebler said Englund was the son of Leachman, who appeared on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and in numerous films, receiving the 1971 Academy Award for best supporting actress for her role in "The Last Picture Show."

Rhys Ritter, a spokesman for the YMCA, said Englund had checked into the $22-a-day room on Saturday, giving a California home address.

He said a maid knocked at the door to clean the room at 2 p.m. Tuesday, and there was no answer. When hotel officials went into the room, they found Englund on the bed.

An ambulance was called, but Englund was dead when it arrived, Ritter said.
